Meet our Tutor

Sara C.

Sara is an accomplished teacher and tutor with deep Orton-Gillingham experience. She completed her undergraduate studies in social work at the University of the West Indies and Florida International University. After graduation, Sara worked for several years as community health educator, during which time she discovered her passion for teaching. She went on to complete a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) allowing her to teach English across the globe in places such as Spain, Chile, and India. Upon her return to the U.S., Sara worked as a bilingual tutor in several CT public school systems while completing a M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (M.A. TESOL) and obtaining her K-12 TESOL teaching license. As she searched for ways to help struggling readers, Sara initially discovered Brain Friendly Reading (an Orton-Gillingham-based program). After witnessing profound improvement in her students’ literacy skills, she became inspired to learn more about the Orton-Gillingham approach and ultimately completed the Associate Certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy. Sara has provided fun and empowering literacy tutoring for students privately and at the Bilgrav School for Dyslexic Students. Aside from teaching, Sara loves traveling, riding the waves on her boogie board, and running with her dog.
