Jamie K.

Jamie has over 10 years of teaching experience teaching high school English and at the elementary level, which has provided her the privilege of working with a diverse range of students. Throughout her career, she has come to believe that reading is one of the most crucial social justice issues of our time. It’s the key to accessing information, fully participating in society, and unlocking students’ potential. Currently, Jamie serves as the lead reading intervention teacher at a vibrant K-8 school in Aurora, Colorado, where she is deeply committed to supporting all students in becoming successful readers. Her passion lies in exploring the science of reading and the science of learning. She is trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach, Heggerty, SIPPS and LETRS, and is continuously seeking ways to enhance and refine her practice. What drives her most is building meaningful connections with her students and their families, and personalizing lessons to cater to her students’ individual interests and needs. In addition to her work in education, Jamie is part of a founding group of educators and business professionals working to establish a non-profit organization aimed at supporting neurodiverse learners from kindergarten through high school and into the adult workforce. Her deep commitment to supporting neurodiverse learners reflects her belief in inclusive education and empowerment. Outside of teaching, Jamie enjoys reading, exploring history, solving word puzzles, and spending time outdoors with her four children.
