Emily is a first grade teacher in New York City. She has six years of experience teaching in first through fourth grade. Prior to working at her current school, she taught at a school for children with language-based learning disabilities like dyslexia. She also has experience tutoring children in pre-K through fourth grade across subject areas. Emily has a master’s degree in Early Childhood General and Special Education from Bank Street College of Education in New York City. She is trained in PAF, an Orton Gillingham-based reading program. She is also trained and has experience in other reading programs including EBLI, Heggerty, Fundations, EL, and SIPPS. She believes early reading intervention is the key to later success. Emily loves seeing the moment when reading clicks for students. She enjoys helping children who are struggling to learn how to succeed in reading. She believes in differentiating to meet individual students’ needs, incorporating students’ interests into lessons to keep them engaged, and making sure students are emotionally cared for so they are in the mindset where they can learn best. Outside of teaching, Emily enjoys watching and participating in theater, sewing and weaving, going to museums, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.
